Zelman Cowen Centre Graduate

The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre strives to provide quality education, research and evaluation services.

The Cowen Centre provides the highest quality training and support to the courts, legal practitioners, judiciary and other professions. It works with a diverse range of employers, practitioners and professional bodies to identify training needs and tailor programs and events to meet those needs.

The Cowen Centre draws on resources available through its cooperative arrangement with the University of Cambridge's Institute of Continuing Education, as well as the best practitioners and trainers available.

The Cowen Centre also hosts the CCH eMoot Court facility - a joint venture, high-tech courtroom used by practitioners, judges and professionals alike. It uses the latest hardware and software for managing evidence, transcript, court management and presentation systems.

Sir Zelman Cowen

The Centre is proud to be named in honour of one of Australia's most distinguished jurists, Sir Zelman Cowen. Born in St Kilda in 1919, Sir Zelman studied law at Oxford University after serving in World War II. Sir Zelman Cowen
From 1951, he was Professor of Public Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Melbourne University. Knighted in 1976, he was appointed Governor-General of Australia the following year. He became Provost of Oriel College Oxford in 1982 and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Oxford in 1988. He also served as Chairman of the UK Press Council between 1983 and 1988.
