Research

The Victoria Law School has specialist research skills in the areas of international comparative commercial law, corporate governance, legal history, communications law (through its association with the Communications Law Centre and environmental law.

Staff researchers are also active across a wide range of academic-industry projects in areas such as Corporate Law, Human Rights Law, International Trades Law, Public Internet Law and Intellectual Property Law. Centre for International Corporate Governance Research
The Centre for International Corporate Governance Research (CICGR) works with business and government to advance knowledge and contribute to the adoption of best practice in corporate governance in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Our Director, Professor Anona Armstrong, leads a team of internationally recognised experts and more than 20 researchers across the schools of Accountancy and Finance, Information Systems, Law and Management, who have developed strong track records in corporate governance or closely related fields.

The CICGR is a central contact for governments, business, policy makers, scholars and practitioners who have an interest in governance issues through:

  • publication of original research in books and refereed journal articles
  • teaching and supervision of graduate students
  • commissioned studies into corporate governance issues
  • publication of commissioned reports
  • consulting
  • training in corporate governance
  • convening seminars and conferences
  • developing intellectual property on corporate governance
  • developing training materials

Members of the CICGR have published numerous books and papers on corporate governance and related issues. Major international and Australian studies have explored such topics as:

  • governance in the top 500 companies in Australia and China;
  • community governance;
  • community social responsibility;
  • models of community governance in China;
  • ethics and governance;
  • small business and its contribution to APEC;
  • governance in developing countries;
  • best practice governance in the public sector.
